The Junior Girl Scouts of Troop 337 in Thorsby are hosting a fundraiser for Butterfly Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center as a part of their Bronze Award.

The Butterfly Bolt 5K and Caterpillar Crawl one mile fun run will be held on Sept. 15 at 8 a.m. with registration starting at 7 a.m. at Corner Park in downtown Clanton.

Scouts had brainstormed nonprofits they wanted to help and chose Butterfly Bridge before deciding on what they could do. Once a 5K race event was decided on, Scouts then began discussing ideas for flyers and promotion.

“Some people are over crafts that we would do with the kids,” Girl Scout Alaina Cantley

said.

Crafts will include making butterflies from coffee filters, butterfly rings and necklaces.

Girl Scout London Huffstutler said she created a caterpillar ring toss game for the event.

Other Girl Scouts will be handing out healthy snacks.

Cantley said the group held a car wash to raise donations for supplies for the race. These included race bibs and awards for the race winners.

She said she wanted to be a part because the funds raised “were to a good cause.”

Girl Scout Dixie Coker helped design the flyers for the event.

Troop leader Amy Jolley said the group has received community support through some sponsorships for prizes, water and snacks at the event.

Registration is $30 or $33 online (including the site’s processing fee.)

“We are asking the people that are running to bring a donation to Butterfly Bridge,” Jolley said.

A list of needed items is available on the event page.

Trophies will be presented to the top male, female and child finishers.

Medals will be awarded for second and third place in the three categories.

Door prizes winners will also be drawn.

The one mile fun run is free.

Leading up to the event, each Junior Girl Scout is caring for a caterpillar that the hope will be a butterfly by race day. The butterflies will be released the day of the event.

Corner Park is located at the intersection of Second Avenue N and Sixth Street N.
