The state Back-to-School Tax Holiday will be July 20-22.

According to a press release from the Alabama Retail Association, this will be the 13th year for the tax break on school-related items.

The event waives the 4 percent state portion of sales tax on these items, and many local municipalities also choose to participate.

In Chilton County, Clanton and Thorsby have waived the local portion of sales tax for these days.

Local sales tax will still be charged in Maplesville and Jemison.

Categories of items included in the tax break event are: clothing ($100 or less per article of clothing), school suppliesĀ ($50 or less per item), books ($30 or less per book) and computers/ printers ($750 or less).

An inclusive list of specific items that will be tax free can be accessed here.
