The Verbena/Chilton Fire Department has had a recent change in command, as former chief Allen Goree had to step down due to health concerns.

Jonathan Cagle has assumed the new chief position.

On Facebook Cagle said, “I want to say that while we have worked as a team and department to get where we are now, it would not have been possible without the leadership and dedication both Allen Goree and Shannon Goree showed for Verbena/Chilton. They have instilled vision and dreams for our local department into myself and each person at Verbena Fire that will not soon be forgotten but fulfilled and expanded upon from here forward.

“I want to thank you both from the bottom of my heart for your service to the community and for everything y’all have taught me. Chief has some mighty big shoes to fill, and I don’t intend on letting him down. I as well as your department and community are here for anything either of you ever need. Great love for you both.”

There were several other comments thanking Goree for his dedication to the community, that he was a pleasure to work with, a great mentor and friend along with continued prayers.

Cagle is planning to move the station forward as Allen and Shannon had planned.
