Sixteen-year-old Jeffrey Buchanan, who has been missing from Clanton since July 7, was located and taken into custody in Riverside, California, on July 11.
“It’s confirmed. His family’s been notified. He’s OK,” Assistant Chief Deputy Shane Mayfield of the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office said upon confirming Buchanan’s detainment in California.
Riverside is located near Los Angeles.
“The family had provided information that he wanted to go to California,” Mayfield said. “We had a contact with the California Department of Justice from a prior case we had worked with them on. We contacted her, and she pushed the information out statewide there.”
On July 11, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department reported that a young man matching Buchanan’s description was in custody after he was spotted by a deputy around lunchtime and detained without incident, according to CCSO.
Buchanan’s identity was confirmed by photo a little before 3 p.m. the same day.
