It was a sweet surprise for Mary-Henning Dale when her name was called as the 2018 Young Miss Peach Queen on June 25.
“I was like, ‘Oh my goodness’ because I had actually tripped all over my dress, but it was a really (good) surprise,” Dale said.
Dale was also the casual wear winner.
She said she was looking forward to being on stage and crowning the next Young Miss Peach.
Dale was the Little Miss Peach Queen in 2016.
Her favorite memory from her Little Miss reign is participating in the special needs prom.
“I liked the special needs prom because you get to hang out with all (those with) special needs,” Dale said. “You get to dance with them, and it’s so much fun.”
She attends Clanton Intermediate School and enjoys volunteering and baking.
This was her first year to compete in the Young Miss category.
Lexi-Kate Hayes was the fourth alternate. Third alternate was Anna Cate Burnett. Saydie Smith was the second alternate. First alternate was Lexie Deavers. The art contest winner was Jesslyn Maddox.
Qualified individuals from outside Chilton County judge each pageant. Girls are scored in interview (which is conducted offstage), casual wear and evening gown.
Young Miss Peach receives a cash prize of $500, along with gifts from various sponsors. The first alternate receives a cash prize of $300.
Also during the event, the Clanton Lions Club honored the memory of longtime member Tommy Patterson, who died this year. He had been active on the club and in the community.
