Recent high school graduate Kiki Shaw is The Clanton Advertiser’s senior spotlight for Chilton Christian Academy.

A Clanton native, Shaw joined CCA as a freshman in high school, quickly acquiring new friendships and experiences as she splashed into numerous involvements.

She had not been so involved prior to enrolling in CCA.

“I started joining clubs, [and] I started getting involved in sports,” she said. “I played basketball, I book-kept and was manager for volleyball. This year, I was the Beta Club president.”

In recent years, Shaw was Student Leadership Council vice president and Beta Club treasurer.

“And then, I just joined in all the clubs, and I always volunteer for anything that needs to be done,” she said.

Attending CCA means serving the school and community, Shaw said.

“Going to CCA isn’t just you go for eight hours, and then you’re done. We always have stuff after school where we’re volunteering,” she said. “You don’t just go to school at CCA; you live at CCA … We’re always trying to help the community in everything we do.”

Some of her service spills into her church involvement through Trinity Baptist Church, where she has grown up serving locally and on mission trips.

CCA, Shaw said, is special.

“It’s kind of like a family at CCA, so you love everybody, you hang out with everybody,” she said. “I’ve loved everything about CCA.”

Several experiences made the top of her list.

“Probably my favorite memory at CCA is, we do plays at the end of each year,” she said. “And so, I love the theater part of that.”

Although she maintained a behind-the-scenes post in prior productions as the sound manager and light assistant, Shaw took to the stage this year with her senior class for “Alice in Wonderland.”

“I was the duchess, so I had the baby pig, and I sang a song and everything,” she said. “I really like the character.”
The play and characters were selected based on the class’ personalities and group relationship.

“That was our class, like, that play was our class,” Shaw said. “Each character was how we are.”

Shaw’s second-favorite CCA experience was playing basketball.

“That’s always really, really fun,” she said.

Shaw said she is looking forward to her next chapter in life.

“I’m so excited! It’s been a long 12 years,” she said, “I know I’m going to miss my classmates. I know I really am. But, I’m only going to Troy University, so it’s not that far away … I know we’re going to keep in touch because we’re such a close-knit class.”

Shaw plans to major in mathematics.

She said her only set plans for this summer is her senior class trip to the beach.

“I want to relax before college starts and just take a break from school, and then get ready for college,” she said.

Shaw graduated Valedictorian on May 18 with her eight classmates.
