A late comeback by the Chilton County Lady Tigers came up a little short April 19 in a 8-5 loss to cross town rival Jemison.

The visiting Panthers would threaten to score early in the first inning, but after a pair of infield ground balls to the Tigers the top of the first would end with no runs on the board.

Hope Watts would get the home half of the inning started with a one-out double to right center field and would later score on a wild pitch to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.

The top of the second would prove to be a big inning for Jemison, as the Panthers would score five runs. A one-out single by Kelsey Lowery would get things started for the Panthers followed by a walk by Kyla Wilson. A RBI single by Charlise Murphy would tie the game at one while a RBI single by Hannah Corbin would make it a one run Jemison lead. A sac fly by Madison Moore and RBI doubles by Emma Alred and Erristen Evans would give Jemison a 5-1 lead.

With a pair of singles for the Tigers in the bottom half of the second amounting to no runs, action would go to the third with Jemison leading 5-1.

A single by Logan Woodley along with a single by Marlie Giles would do little to help either team through the third, while a leadoff double by Corbin would set up to a RBI single by Evans that would extend the Panthers’ lead to 6-1 in the top of the fourth.

With the Tigers going quietly through the bottom half of the fourth, and likewise for the Panthers in the top of the fifth, the game would move to the bottom half of the fifth inning with the Tigers trailing by five.

A leadoff single by Caelyn Griffin and a walk by Watts would set up a RBI single by Marlie Giles that would be followed by a RBI single by Emma Locke. Add to the tally a RBI single by Maddie Giles, and the Tigers had pulled to within two at 6-4.

Singles by Evans, Shelby Crowson and Woodley in the top of the sixth inning would present the Panthers with opportunities to score, but a pair of infield ground balls would bring the threat to an end while leaving the score at 6-4.

An error by the Panthers to start the bottom half of the sixth on a ground ball from Griffin would lead to a RBI double by Watts that would cut the Jemison lead to one at 6-5.

Murphy would start the top of the seventh for Jemison with a double thanks to an error by the Tigers, and with an intentional walk to Corbin along with a walk to Madison Moore, Jemison was in business with the bases loaded and no outs. Another Chilton error on a ball hit by Kinley Bolton would allow Murphy to score while a fielder’s choice single by Evans would score Corbin to extend the Jemison lead to three at 8-5.

CCHS was down to its final three outs. A leadoff strikeout and a fly ball to center field would make it a one out game prior to a two-out single from Hallie Ousley. An infield ground ball on the next Tiger at bat would be relayed to first for the game’s final out to secure an 8-5 win for the Panthers.

Corbin got the start for Jemison on the mound and threw two innings while allowing one earned run on two hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Evans led the Panthers at the plate with a 4-for-5 performance with three singles, a double and three RBIs.

Emma Deason pitched a complete game for the Tigers, allowing seven earned runs on 15 hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Watts led Chilton at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance with a pair of doubles and a RBI.
