It has been three weeks since the 2018 Chilton County Softball Tournament, and there is still a buzz in the county following Jemison’s victory.

County tournaments are always a big deal for both players and fans and can really help bring a community together.

However, this excitement is missing when it comes to baseball, which is currently absent of a county tournament on its regular season schedule.

This has been the case for several years now, but is something that the coaches and schools should seriously consider reinstalling in the future.

Baseball is such a popular sport in the county and has a following that would surly create a dynamic atmosphere similar to that of the basketball tournament held each year.

Not to mention the financial aspects and revenue that tournaments typically bring in.

Since I have started covering the county’s sports three years ago, the absence of a baseball county tournament has been the missing link in the sports calendar.

I have heard many of the arguments that were made against it when it was decided to drop the tournament from the schedule years ago.

However, the majority of the head coaches in the county at the time when the decision was made are no longer at those schools.

There are several new coaches, some of which may not even realize why the tournament does not take place.

The county tournament allows a sense of pride to be had among fans and another chance for lasting memories to be made among players no matter the sport.

At the end of the day, we cannot forget that it is still high school sports and it would be a shame for players to graduate without being able to say that they have taken part in a county tournament.
