Children now have a new opportunity to stay healthy through the YMCA of Chilton County’s Kids Superhero Marathon Program.

In the program, students will run 25.2 miles between now and Healthy Kids Day on April 21.

Y Director Lori Patterson said this is the first time the program has been offered as a way “to encourage them to get activity every day.”

The program is open to children and teens of all ages. Patterson said participants receive a log sheet to keep track of their miles. The final mile will be completed as a group on April 21.

Cost to participate is $20, and includes a T-shirt. Those who complete the 26.2 miles will also receive a marathon completion medal.

Registration can be completed at the YMCA of Chilton County at 405 Ollie Avenue.

Healthy Kids Day will feature a variety of vendors with information on living a healthy lifestyle.

A Healthy Kids running club is planned to start in May.

The YMCA will host this event in conjunction with the third annual Everyday Hero 5k.

Pre-registration for the 5K is encouraged and can be completed at the YMCA or on active.com. Participants are encouraged to dress as their favorite hero.
