A unique learning opportunity is coming to Chilton County, hosted by the YMCA of Chilton County and Sav-Mor Associated Foods.

Registered nutritionist Lita Chatham with the Alabama Department of Public Health will lead a nutrition tour of Sav-Mor Associated Foods on Feb. 23 at 10 a.m., highlighting the healthiest food and how to read nutrition labels.

Allison Tubbs of the YMCA said Chatham will also highlight how to purchase healthy food, whether on a tight budget, food stamps or whatever the situation.

The event is open to the community, but due to limited space, reservations are required. Reservations can be made by calling (205) 755-2382 or messaging the YMCA on Facebook.

Tubbs said the YMCA wanted to host with a local grocery store to provide an education opportunity for the community.

She said there would be an opportunity for participants to ask specific questions at the end of the event.

The event is planned to be an hour long.

The grocery store tour coincides with the Y’s participation in Scale Back Alabama. The program challenges teams of two to lose 10 pounds each. The weigh out for the competition will be April 2-8.

Sav-Mor Associated Foods is located at 204 Seventh Street South.
