The Maplesville Toys for Kids campaign received a welcome boost from Chilton County United Way with a $800 donation.

The contribution was presented to the town during the Dec. 12 meeting of the town council.

Program coordinators will distribute the toys to recipients on Dec. 20.

Maplesville town employees now have the option of contributing to Chilton County United Way through payroll deductions.

Also during the meeting, the Council:

— Approved a three-month evaluation raise for Police Officer Brandon Warren.

— Determined that refinishing the fire department addition would require the project to be bid out before selecting a contractor over because it would put the cost of the project at $50,000. According to town clerk Dawn Smitherman, anything over $50,000 must be competitively bid. Mayor W.C. Hayes will work with someone to create bid specifications to be presented at the January meeting.

Maplesville town offices will be closed Dec. 22 to Dec. 26 for Christmas and on Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day.
