The Thorsby Fire Department will once again offer the unique vantage point of watching movies under the stars during its annual “Movies in the Park” summer showcase.

It will be the ninth year that the fire department has put on the event. As in previous years, the movies will be held on each Friday in June at Richard Wood Park.

Engineer Zach Hamm is helping to organize and oversee the event.

“We enjoy serving our community,” Hamm said in a press release. “This is a unique way that we can do that. We encourage everyone to come, bring their families and enjoy a free movie in the park.”

This year’s lineup of contains five movies and includes Where Hope Grows on June 2, Moana on June 9, Season of Miracles on June 16, Little Red Wagon on June 23 and A Dog’s Purpose on June 30.

The movies are designed for the entire family to watch together.

Four of the five movies are rated PG or Family, except for Where Hope Grows which is PG-13.

Thorsby First Baptist, Ellison Funeral Home, the Town of Thorsby, Martin Funeral Home and Peoples Southern Bank will each sponsor one of the movies.

The movies will not begin at a certain, but instead will start at dusk and once it gets dark enough. The film will not be shown at a later date, if rain interrupts the scheduled plans.

Admission is free to the event and patrons are encouraged to bring items such as lawn chairs, blankets, coolers and picnic baskets.

“This is a great way for people to get together and get out of the house without stretching their budgets,” Hamm said.
