Bailey Sellers helped propel the Thorsby Rebels to a third round appearance in the Class 2A state baseball playoffs and his hard work continued to pay off, as he signed a college scholarship to Coastal Alabama Community College on May 1.

Sellers will continue his role as a pitcher at the next level, which was something he excelled at during his high school career as Thorsby’s ace.

He made three trips down to the campus in Bay Minette, about three hours away, throughout the recruiting process.

According to Sellers, he enjoyed each visit and it did not take long for him to realize that it was the place for him.

“The coaches are really what did it for me,” Sellers said. “I liked the way he coaches and what his plans were. It just seemed like a good fit for me.”

Coastal Alabama began looking strongly at Sellers prior to the start of the 2017 baseball season.

“They wanted me to come down and throw,” Sellers said. “I threw one time and that was it.”

Family, friends, faculty and Sellers’ high school coaching staff were all on hand to witness the decision take place.

“I was just glad for the process to be over and to know where I’m going to go,” Sellers said. “It was nice to have my family and friends there. Definitely a sense of relief.”

Sellers has played baseball at Thorsby since ninth grade.

“I’ve played with a bunch of different people and a lot of teams with different aspects,” Sellers said. “I’m going to remember everybody that I’ve had as a teammate.”

His approach on the mound is to be consistent at pounding the strike zone. This remains the same for every game.

“I feel like a can consistently throw my fastball and beat you with that,” Sellers said. “Hopefully, I can continue to work on that in college.”
