Youth baseball team enters county event undefeated

It has been a while since Thorsby has produced an undefeated baseball team in the 5-6 year old division.
That is until this year, when Richard Lister’s team accomplished the feat during the regular season with a record of 11-0.
“They have a passion for baseball,” head coach Richard Lister said. “That’s odd to say about 5 year olds.”
During that winning streak, the Rebels outscored their opponents 248-60.
The team is comprised of 12 kids and is part of the North Chilton League that includes three teams from Jemison, two from Thorsby and one each from Maplesville and Billingsley.
It is Lister’s second season coaching the team, which has his son on it. Lister credits the fact that the team did not change much from a year ago, with nine players who returned, for the amount of success in 2017.
“We’ve got a good group of coaches,” Lister said.
The coaching staff includes Zac Carroll, Carl Neely, Jacob Day and Jared Day.
The Rebels look to finish out its undefeated campaign during the county tournament, which is single elimination and will be held at the Thorsby baseball parks May 15-19.
According to Lister, hosting the event makes it even more special for both the players and parents.
“Whether its 30 degrees or the middle of summer, they [kids] want to be out there on the field,” Lister said. “They just love the game.”
