The Chilton County Relay for Life will host a breakfast for caregivers and those who have survived cancer on April 27 at 7 a.m. at Clanton First United Methodist Church.

Guest speakers Jada Varden and Cathy Smith will share their stories “to provide hope for those who are battling cancer,” Relay for Life committee member Jessica Duren said.

Smith and Varden both survived cancer and want to encourage others battling the disease. Smith has been in remission for more than 20 years.

“The overall mission is to let them know that they’re special and there’s always someone else who’s been through what you’ve been through,” Duren said.

At the breakfast, guests will be treated to a small gift and a traditional meal, which includes eggs, bacon and breakfast casseroles. Duren said the event will be in a “small, sentimental setting” to reflect the sense of community between survivors.

The breakfast is two days before the Relay for Life, which will be in Clanton City Park at the little league football field. It lasts from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
