Community celebrates Butterfly Bridge

A camper fire took place near Lomax Thursday. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Butterfly Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center held its Raise A Glass to Awareness event at Hidden Meadows Winery and Vineyard on April 20.
The event was thrown as a “thank you” to everyone who supported Butterfly Bridge’s mission to advocate for children and raise awareness in the community of child abuse and methods for its prevention.
Attendees enjoyed live blues music by Early James Mullis and sipped wine from Hidden Meadows’ award winning selection. Guests socialized on the back porch and celebrated Butterfly Bridge’s efforts in partnership with the community of Chilton County.
“It’s nice to know that there’s a program like this that supports children and helps children out of that situation,” guest Tasha Hayes said.
Hayes said she saw cases of children who were malnourished when she worked for the state WIC program, and she is glad Butterfly Bridge is a resource for children who are suffering like the ones she had to send for help.
“It’s our obligation as a community to see that every child is looked after and every child’s taken care of,” guest Shane Ogle said. “I’m a big supporter of that, having children of my own. I’m very invested in this organization, because you never know when [abuse] could happen to a child, and something needs to be done about it.”
Ogle said he knew children who had been through abuse before Butterfly Bridge existed, and he is glad that they have somewhere to go now.
