Kimya Crumpton has organized a drive through the end of April to support the Chilton County Department of Human Resources in memory of Patsy Gore.

Crumpton said she wanted to do something to honor the memory of Gore, who died unexpectedly in February. Crumpton said Gore’s daughter cared for foster children and that Gore always loved having the children around.

“Ms. Patsy always had a heart for children and always had a heart for every child that was ever placed in her daughter’s home,” Crumpton said. “She was just the sweetest lady and she was a substitute for the schools in our county. She was dearly loved in the Jemison area. We were all very saddened at her unexpected passing and wanted to do something to honor her memory.”

The drive will benefit children going through DHR. The resources DHR had set aside for incoming foster children have been depleted, according to Crumpton.

“There’s more children being placed every day,” Crumpton said.

Needed items include diapers, wipes, pull-ups, pencils, loose paper, notebooks and fast food gift cards. Items can be dropped off at 500 Airport Road in Clanton. Crumpton said she could also arrange to pick up items. She can be reached at 217-9948.

Checks can be mailed to DHR at PO Box 1699 Clanton, AL, 35046-1699 and should be designated for the DHR foster children’s fund.

“I want to encourage everyone to continue to support our Chilton County DHR. I feel like that’s an area that’s overlooked sometimes, and there’s always a need. Everybody should look in their community and … find a need and try to meet it,” Crumpton said.
