County engineer Tony Wearren informed the Commission during its March 27 meeting that the city of Clanton recently paved a portion of County Road 41, however 4/10 of a mile remains along the road outside of the city limits.

According to Wearren, the shoulders of the road had been worn down in preparation for the repavement and are rough as a result.

The city of Clanton offered to pay half of the cost required to finish the paving project, and the county also agreed to the deal.

The pavement project was not on the agenda, but was viewed as an emergency by the Commissioners. Hardee motioned to suspend the rules this time, so that a decision would not have to wait another couple of weeks.

Wearren estimated that it would cost the county roughly $17,000, but will come back with a more definite price figure after gathering information.

After Commissioner Jimmie Hardee introduced and discussed a possible future plan for a dog nuisance for the safety of the county, the commission received support moving forward from Sara Brown.

Brown talked about her neighbors’ dogs and how they have demonstrated an aggressive nature by several of them by teaming up to kill a cat one day.

“I’m scared to take my cat or 1-year-old god son out,” Brown said. “I’m here backing any bill all the way.”

According to Commission Chairman Allen Caton, Hardee has really taken this project on since he came on as part of the commission.

“We appreciate your support and we’re working on it,” Matt Mims said.

Hardee urged all commissioners to attend Chilton County’s day in front of the Association of County Commissioners of Alabama on April 5 at the Alabama State House in Montgomery.

“We need to be there if possible,” Hardee said. “We’ve got to represent our county.”

In other news from the meeting, the Commission:

• Approved the sheriff’s department to surplus a 2008 Dodge Charger, as well as hire Josh Hubbard and Keith Avery as part time deputies.
• Approved a resolution in agreement with the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act Local Area Designation Policy as discussed during the March 20 work session.
• Approved door security cards for officers of other municipalities for safety reasons.
• Posted the job description for county lawyer position.
• Accepted fuel bid for all departments.
• Approved an emergency hire of Allison Ellison in the Commission Office.
• Approved for Chairman Allen Caton to sign grant agreement from the Chilton County Airport Authority.
• Emily Hussey was approved to serve on the Chilton/Clanton Public Library Board for a partial term replacing Dick Whisner. Nominations will still be accepted.
• The Commission will meet with DHR at 3 p.m. on April 3 to discuss the new building.
• Joseph Parnell and Greg Moore were absent from the meeting.
