The Thorsby Fire Department is in the midst of receiving multiple upgrades thanks to grant money.
Thorsby Fire Chief Lee Gunn informed the Town Council during its meeting on March 20 that the department recently received its grant money and purchased air packs.
However, $14,000 was left over. That money will be used to purchase updated thermal imagers.
The town also received a forestry grant that was used to purchase two chain saws, a backpack blower and some fire hoses.
Mayor Robert Hight was given permission by the Council to bid on a garbage truck through govdeals.com, which is a government surplus auction website.
The annual summer event “Movies in the Park” was discussed, but planning still has to take place. An official schedule will be given during a future Council meeting.
Marvin Crumpton and Chasity Chapman were absent from the meeting.
In other news from the meeting, the Council:
- Declared the town’s limb truck as salvage.
- Approved $1,500 for Butterfly Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center.
- Approved the minutes from the previous meeting on March 6.
- Approved the bills and transferred the funds.
