MAPLESVILLE —A Maplesville High School student has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after allegedly crashing a vehicle into the school’s dugout.

On March 11 between 5 and 8 p.m. Kevin Mims, who is 18 years old, and friends were driving around on an access road on the school’s property, according to Maplesville police.

According to the police report, Mims said, “He and some friends were playing in their cars when he crashed into the dugout.”

Police Chief Todd Ingram said the drivers were likely doing doughnuts in their cars in the area.

Grass in the area would have been wet from Saturday’s rain.

“It was cinder block and it just crumbled,” Police Chief Todd Ingram said.

Debris from the incident has been removed, and a temporary dugout will be put in place.

Ingram said someone called a school maintenance employee, and the employee contacted the police.

Mims had left the scene. Police contacted the owner of the car, who contacted Mims.

The school has chosen not to press charges for the property damage, according to Ingram.

The police report states that a set of scales for measuring drugs and marijuana were found in Mims’ car when the car was searched before it was towed.

Mims was given a citation to appear in court. Ingram said the case is expected to come up on April 19.

The school declined to comment because of the ongoing investigation.
