The Jemison varsity softball team took the win 4-3 against Chilton County High School on Feb. 28.

The Panthers took a lead in the bottom of the first when Jessica Paschal scored on a wild pitch.

Chilton County countered in the top of the fourth with two runs. Emily Easterling and Morgan Dennis made it in after a fly ball from Destinee Scott was dropped in the outfield.

With the score at 2-1 against Jemison going into the bottom of the fourth, the Panthers had to fight to stay in the game. Ashley Sanders came in as a courtesy runner for pitcher Kennise Bolton after she advanced on a walk and injured her ankle.

Sanders found her way around the bases with help from a bunt by Kelsey Lowery and singles from Paschal and Erristen Evans, bringing the score to a tie.

The next play was a fiasco for Jemison. The runners got confused on the bases, leading to Lowery being called out for offensive interference and Paschal being picked off between second and third to bring about the top of the fifth.

After a quick half inning for CCHS, Jemison stepped up to the plate and brought in two runs. Hannah Corbin made it around the bases after her single and three walks thrown by Halie Ousley.

With three walked runners on the bases, Bolton grounded the ball into a fielder’s choice double play. Emma Allred was able to make it home before the close of the inning, bringing the score to 4-2 headed into the sixth.

Both teams had an unproductive sixth inning, then CCHS took their last bat in the top of the seventh. They needed two runs to keep the game alive. Cassie Phillips scored after a ground ball from Sarah Watts and an error by the shortstop.

The Tigers needed one more run and had two on base, but Bolton for Jemison put an end to the game by throwing a strikeout before the Tigers could chalk up the tying run.
