Co-Missioned Ministries wants to make sure that no one misses out on the prom experience due to the finances of it all.

The local clothing outreach is taking the next step in helping those in need within the community by providing prom attire for families with juniors and seniors in high school.

“The prom is the most important thing in your life when you are a junior and senior,” said Monica Price, founder of Co-Missioned Ministries.

Heritage Chapel in Verbena has offered up the building as a viable place to hold a prom outreach event in the future. Tentative dates are being discussed.

Dresses began being donated in 2015 with the opportunity to assist families in mind.

“We’ve been collecting the dresses, and now it has reached the point where we can give back,” Price said.

According to Price, the cost to attend prom can become expensive with dresses costing around $150 or more, plus the fees associated with prom tickets and other preparation such as hair and makeup.

A variety of dress sizes have been donated from size 2 up to 26. The dresses will be rented with a $25 cleaning fee, the only cost attached.

However, dresses are not the only apparel that will be on hand, as shoes, suits and dress pants will also be available, although at a lesser selection.

Clanton Cleaners has agreed to accept 10 dresses per week to clean prior to making available to the public.

Price hopes that other businesses, churches, schools and individuals will follow the lead of Clanton Cleaners and join in a partnership to help the cause.
