Many people want to lose weight, but are not sure how to get started in the right direction.

The Right Bite Cooking School presented by the Chilton County Extension Office was designed with that in mind.

“Most people are looking to revamp their health in one way or another,” said Christina LeVert, a regional extension agent and registered dietitian. “The class can give them that little extra motivation required.”

The course will be broken down into six classes and will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays beginning Jan. 31 and ending March 7.

With the classes beginning at the end of January, LeVert hopes that it will inspire people to maintain their New Year healthy resolutions.

Each week will offer a different topic, as the course is designed a wide range of aspects.

According to LeVert, participants will be given tips on achieving a healthy lifestyle in each step of the process, from selecting foods in the grocery store to cooking techniques at home.

“It’s valuable info, if you’re looking to eat right,” LeVert said.

Classes will include a focus on using sweetners, portion control, reading labels, choosing the right fats, carbohydrates and controlling blood pressure.

From previous experience teaching classes, LeVert stated that portion control and reading labels are topics that are sure to capture the full attention of the class.

“People have an idea of what to eat, but it comes down to controlling how much to eat,” LeVert said. “[Labels] can be overwhelming to people. We will help to break it all down.”

There will be a new recipe introduced during every class and samples will be available for taste testing.

A one-time $10 registration fee is required to help with the costs for supplies. To pre-register call the Extension Office at (205) 280-6268 and mail the fee to P.O. Box 30, Clanton, AL 35046.

Registrations must be accepted by Jan. 25 and space is limited.

A popular question that LeVert gets asked is in regards to which butter they should buy.

“There are always options in every grocery store,” LeVert said. “We give people the tools to make the decision on their own.”
