The Thorsby basketball program is currently flying high with both the girls and boys basketball teams undefeated through four games in area play.

Head coach Leighsa Robinson’s girls squad earned its fourth area victory on Friday Jan. 13 with a 56-45 win over Fayetteville at home.

“This is the time of year when you kick it in and when you’ve got to go,” Robinson said.

The Rebels controlled the game from start to finish, which proved never in doubt after Thorsby jumped out to a 38-18 halftime lead.

The Rebels were missing a pair of post players from the lineup, which put even more pressure on the play of the guards to fill the void.

“They’re just smart at putting pressure on the ball,” Robinson said.

Lily Barnett and Kerri Robinson did just that, and were the main points contributors for the Rebels with 20 and 18 points respectively.

The two scored back-to-back fast break layups following steals to help put an exclamation point of the third quarter and extend Thorsby’s lead 52-29.

Due to the massive lead, the Rebels were able to clear the bench with all five positions on the court comprised of reserves for the start of the fourth quarter.

“It gives them some confidence and gives the starters a break,” Leighsa Robinson said. “It’s just good all the way around.”

Two more area games remain for Thorsby in their quest to host the area tournament. The Rebels will go on the road against Verbena before a home contest with Billingsley.

“It feels good anytime you can get an area win,” Kerri Robinson said. “We’re just trying to get back to where we were last year as area champs
