The Chilton County Chamber of Commerce is organizing a Trick or Treat in the Street event for Oct. 31 in downtown Clanton.
Booths will line the streets of 2nd Avenue and 6th Street South. Various businesses, churches and public figures will all be there handing out candy, according to Lynsie Glasscock, Executive Assistant at the Chamber.
Trick or Treat in the Street is free and open to the public, thanks to the sponsorship of the Chamber.
“We wanted to have one space where the kids could go trick-or-treat everybody in a safe environment,” said Glasscock.
Candy is not all that will be in store for those in attendance. The Chamber of Commerce has also sponsored a kid zone, which will be in the City Hall parking lot with inflatables for the children to enjoy free of charge.
In addition to the trick-or-treating and the kid zone, there will be a costume contest in Corner Park downtown. There will be three age groups, according to Glasscock. The first age group is newborn to 4 years of age, the second is for children 5 to 8 years of age, and the third is for children 9 to 12 years of age.
The Alabama Power Service Organization will sponsor the costume contest, and local businesses have donated gift cards to be won.
The contest registration begins at 5:30 p.m. Contestants are asked to keep their costumes family friendly. The contests will be held back to back, starting with the youngest age group at 5:45 p.m. Winners will be chosen at 6:30 p.m., according to Glasscock.
The Clanton Police Department will block the streets and ensure the area remains safe. The Chamber of Commerce is thankful for the cooperation and support of the CPD, according to Glasscock.
Trick or Treat in the Street will be from 5:30-7 p.m. on Oct. 31. Put on your spookiest outfits and come have a family friendly night in downtown Clanton.
