The Maplesville Town Council met Sept. 12 to take care of business and hear from members of the community.

Police Chief Todd Ingram requested a new computer for the Police Department so that they can store footage from their body cameras and police cars in a central location instead of scattered among all the cars and computers. This was approved, as was a recommendation to have Stephen Johnson as a reserve officer. Johnson will serve as a ride-along chaplain with the department.

The police are investigating a burglary that took place over the Labor Day holiday at the Street Department lot. The fence was cut and burglars took power saws, a pole saw, leaf blowers, and a weed-eater.

The Maplesville Fire Department gave a call report. The department was not able to respond to a fire last month because its only qualified driver was out of town. Other fire departments responded, but the town is in need of volunteers so that in the future they can respond to their own fires.

An alcohol license application for Valle Grande Mexican Grill was tabled. The restaurant plans to open in late October in downtown Maplesville.
