The Chilton-Clanton Public Library will hold a Christmas in July movie event on July 27 at 2 p.m. There will be snacks provided and children are encouraged to come in their pajamas and bring blankets or sleeping bags.

The Christmas in July event is part of an ongoing summer movies program. The goal of the program is to provide family fun that everyone can enjoy at no cost.

The library has been showing movies during the summer for three years now. When asked how the idea for a summer movie series came about, Director Kelly Easterling said: “I wanted to do something fun…and we have a really good system here. It’s like going to the movies.” The conference room is wired with surround sound and has a full high definition projected screen.

The summer movie series is an affordable alternative to a movie theater, without compromising a quality viewing experience, Easterling said.

“I try to show the newest kid related movies that come out,” Easterling said. “Some people can’t afford to go to Redbox or use Pay-Per-View.”

The event usually draws about 60 people, and the same crowd is expected for Christmas in July. The participation of the crowd is an important part of the family-oriented program. Earlier this summer, a Star Wars themed movie night drew families dressed as characters from the popular sci-fi series.

“An entire family of seven came dressed, from the dad to the baby,” said Easterling.

Parents are encouraged to bring their children and are welcome to stay for the show. The movie will be shown in the conference room of the Chilton-Clanton Public Library on July 27 at 2 p.m. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
