Assistant Chief Rick Simmons represented the Thorsby Police Department at Monday’s Town Council meeting and informed the Council that the department is dropping a reserve officer and looking to add Tyler Hayes to fill the void.

According to Simmons, Hayes is 19 years old with a perfect driving record and no criminal history.

Councilman Neil Benson moved to approve the hiring of Hayes, and Councilman Marvin Crumpton seconded the motion, which passed.

Director of Public Works Terry Jackson had “no major problems” to bring up to the Council.

However, councilman Glenn Littleton asked for an update on the skimmer and the duckweed situation addressed at the most recent meeting.

Jackson stated that he should be ordering the necessary tools for the job on Tuesday.

Fire Chief Lee Gunn informed the Council that the department’s main engine No. 31 was in need of some maintenance that would cost about $700.

According to Gunn, last week’s “Movie in the Park” was cancelled due to the inclement weather, but the department still plans to run four movies this summer.

In other news from the meeting, the Council approved a quarter-page advertisement in the upcoming hospital magazine that will be published by The Clanton Advertiser.

Crumpton motioned to pay the bills, while Littleton seconded the motion, and shortly after the meeting was adjourned.
