Jefferson State Community College will add men’s and women’s golf programs for the 2016-17 academic year.

The teams will begin this fall and will compete in the Alabama Community College Conference and National Junior College Athletic Association, according to a press release from Jeff State.

“We are very pleased to bring athletics back to Jefferson State,” Jefferson State Dean of Enrollment Dr. Mike Hobbs said. “The Birmingham area is a fantastic location for golf, and we look forward to all the benefits both teams will bring to our community and our college.”

There will be eight scholarships available for the men’s team and eight scholarships for the women’s team. Scholarships will cover tuition and fees.

Try-outs for the teams will be held in July.

To be eligible for tryouts, anyone interested should complete the online form at www.jeffersonstate.edu/golfteam. Those who wish to be eligible for the team need to be admissible to Jefferson State and comply with NJCAA eligibility rules.

Students at any of Jeff State’s four locations, including the Clanton campus, will be eligible for the teams.

“Jefferson State is dedicated to providing opportunities, and we believe the addition of these teams will do just that,” Hobbs said. “It also gives our college and community something else to be excited about.”
