Maplesville’s community park recently received an upgrade, donated by Heart of Dixie Parts and Equipment.

The company, which sells logging equipment, had employees get together and decided the park needed new playground equipment and that they would be the ones to donate it.

“We’re all from around here and so we know what it’s like to live here,” said Janet Spigner with Heart of Dixie. “We just thought it would be good to give the kids something to do while their older siblings are playing ball.”

The idea stemmed from employees being at the ballpark and seeing the children having nothing to do unless they were playing ball.

The employees and the business took it from there to donate what they could, then the equipment was purchased from various places online and shipped to Maplesville.

Prior to the upgrade, the park did not have much to offer for the children other than some small pieces at the kiddy park.

“There were one or two pieces that were on the kiddy park, but nothing else was really there for some older children,” Spigner said.

The playground now offers new swings, a merry-go-round and other fun accessories for kids to enjoy.

“The equipment is up and ready to go; we’ve actually already had some kids who have been enjoying it,” Spigner said.

The park also offers two ball fields, as well as a pavilion that can be rented out for events by calling (334) 366-4211.

The City of Maplesville welcomes citizens and visitors to come and enjoy the park and the new playground equipment.

The park is located at 301 Shanks Drive in Maplesville.
