Marijuana, pistol found during Thorsby traffic stop

A 24-year-old Alabaster man was arrested Tuesday in Thorsby and faces charges related to drugs and a weapon.
Anthony Eugene Wooley Jr. was arrested at about 2:25 p.m. Tuesday after a traffic stop, according to Thorsby Police Chief Rodney Barnett.
Barnett said Officer William Scarbrough was patrolling on Franklin Street, in the western part of town, when he passed a vehicle speeding and without a license tag.
Scarbrough stopped the vehicle and ended up arresting Wooley, the vehicle’s driver and only occupant, on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana first degree, carrying a pistol unlawfully and possession of a concealed weapon without a permit.
Barnett said Scarbrough and Assistant Chief Rick Simmons found about half a pound of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, a large sum of cash and the pistol during the traffic stop.
The charge for carrying a pistol unlawfully stemmed from Wooley having been convicted of a previous crime that would disqualify him from legally carrying the weapon, Barnett said.
“I’d like to commend both officers for a job well done for getting some drugs off the street that won’t be getting into the hands of our youth,” Barnett said.
Wooley was eligible for bond on Thursday, Barnett said.
