Woman charged with exposing baby to meth

A 33-year-old Jemison woman is facing up to 10 years in prison after police said she gave birth to a child who allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine.
The Alabaster Police Department arrested Jenny Miranda Lee, who lists an address off Chilton County 51, on May 11 and charged her with one felony count of chemical endangerment of a child.

The charge is a Class C felony, according to Alabama law, and is punishable by up to 10 years in prison upon conviction.
According to her arrest warrant, Lee gave birth to a child at Alabaster’s Shelby Baptist Medical Center on March 1 who tested positive for “methamphetamine and amphetamines.”
The hospital reported the incident to the Shelby County Department of Human Resources, which investigated the case before turning it over to the Alabaster Police Department.
Lee was released from the Shelby County Jail the day after she was arrested after posting a $10,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in Shelby County District Court for a preliminary hearing on June 8 at 8:30 a.m.
