The school year approaches its end, which also means the last portion of the high school sports season is about to embark.

Spring sports symbolize the change in the weather, as each of the sports during this designated time period is played outside with the elements as a factor.

Though the cold weather will continue to linger as the season gets under way, especially in regard to night games without the aid of the sun, do not get discouraged.

It will not be long into the season before the weather begins to feel more like spring and resembles the name on the athletic calendar.

Baseball and softball are played throughout the year with the various travel ball and organizational teams.

However, there is something about playing those two sports this time of year that just seems to be a natural fit.

Though baseball and softball may garner most of the attention, there are plenty of other sports that also call the spring their home.

If you truly enjoy sports, the spring season presents an array of options. Those programs include track and field, tennis, soccer and golf.

No matter in which sport your interest lies, there will be an opportunity for you to witness the action as a fan, as each of the spring sports designated by the Alabama High School Athletic Association is played somewhere within the county limits.

Boys and girls golf is played at various schools throughout the area, and Jemison will once again have a soccer program with both varsity and junior varsity squads.

Do not forget about tennis which is always a strength and extremely competitive throughout the county.

Never forget that without your support, high school sports not just in the spring but in general will no longer have the foundation to continue on into the future.

In the South, the weather is often bragged about and for good reason. Take some time in the next couple of months to bask in that weather, and let us hope that this spring season gives the entire county something to brag about as well.
