Girl Scouts cookies about to be sold

The beginning of February marks the peak of Girl Scouts cookie season.
According to the Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama official website, Feb. 6 to March 18 is the time period designated as the cookie season.
One of the more popular times for cookie sales is mid-February and Valentine’s Day.
“Girl Scouts cookies are actually really easy to sell, because everyone looks forward to this time of year,” said Girl Scouts parent Terrie Childress. “You have a good month to get your cookies.”
The cookies are scheduled to be picked up at Legion Field in Birmingham on Feb. 5 and 6 by the various troops.
“Once we get those cookies and start separating them out to the designated girls, they can start delivering,” Childress said. “After that, we will start setting up cookie booths throughout Chilton County.”
According to Childress, there is an app called “cookie locator” that can be downloaded for free.
“You can actually put in your location and any cookie booths around that area will show up,” Childress said.
Technology is becoming a major influence not only in how cookies are sold but also how they monitored on a daily basis with the “Digital Cookie Card,” a website that has been introduced for the first time this year.
According to Childress, they are trying to get the girls to further learn marketing and computer skills. This is the newest thing out there.
The “Digital Cookie Card” can be an outlet for family members living out of town, by providing the convenience of placing their cookie orders through the website.
The price of a box of cookies has gone up from $3.50 a year to $4.
According to Childress, the Chilton County area was one of the last to raise their prices over the previous years.
There are seven different types of cookies to choose from.
The variety includes Savannah Smiles, Trefoils, Tagalongs, Samoas, Thin Mints, Do-si-dos and Rah-Rah Raisins as this year’s new addition.
According to Childress, the annual troop meetings are represented by a Clanton troop, two troops in Thorsby and two troops in Jemison.
