Family, fellowship and food are the three “F’s” that Tiffany Collins lives her life by.

The last of those can be found at The Farm House Café, which Collins has owned for the past 18 months at its location on U.S. 31 in Thorsby.

“It just kind of fell in my lap,” Collins said. “I have found each one of those right here.”

Since she has opened her doors, there have been many return customers and an appreciation for the home-style selection of food that Collins offers.

“I was raised on a farm and in my grandmother’s kitchen,” Collins said. “She had a fruit stand, and anything that might have been going bad, was cooked. That was the inspiration behind the food.”

The original building was an old peach shed that Collins’ father and Tom Bentley partnered together to grow and pack sweet potatoes as well as any others crops that were grown.

With much of the world adopting fast food as the new normal, Collins believes that there is still a need for the traditional sit-down dinner.

The menu varies each day, but by far the most anticipated day is Tuesday with Collins’ handmade meatloaf as one of the chosen meats for that day.

“We put everything together by hand, and it is as fresh as I can get it for that time of year,” Collins said. “Nobody has time to prepare this type of food anymore. To put this back on the table for families to enjoy means something to me.”

After focusing solely on lunch, the Farm House Café began serving breakfast earlier this month for those in search of a hearty meal prior to work or school.

Collins arrives at the restaurant around 4:30 a.m. each day to begin preparation for the lunchtime rush. A buffet is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.

“I haven’t found a hard part to this job yet,” Collins said. “I love it so much that I wake up every day and can’t wait to get here. This has become my second home.”

The restaurant is open Monday to Thursday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
