Sarah Beth Huntley, an eighth grader at Clanton Middle School, won the school spelling bee and will advance to the countywide spelling bee.

Huntley (right photo, left) is the daughter of Tony and Liz Huntley.

There were 13 total Clanton Middle School students who qualified for the school competition by passing a preliminary spelling test.

Christy Xie (right photo, right) was the runner-up in the school spelling bee and is the daughter of YaHua Lin and Dennis Xie.

The 13 participants in the bee included (above, front row) Jakobi Albert, Trenton Allen, Beth Bishop, Kendall Davis, Mia Deason, Marta Garcia, Grayson Graves (back row), Sara Beth Huntley, Kaylee Keeble, Jada Neal, Avree Parrish, Halle Sullivan and Christy Xie.
