Floyd Baptist Church

Bro. Mike Lawrence’s message was from Galatians 5:22 and was titled “the fruit of love.” If you have love, the rest of the fruits of the spirit will fall right into place.

Paul was writing to a troubled church at Galacia. They were putting the law in place of grace. The fruits of the spirit are above the law, and Paul was trying to bring them back to grace.

God first loved us, so we should love God in return. He loved us while we were in the depths of sin. The greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart. The second is to love your neighbor as yourself.

How can you tell if someone does not love God? If you hear them use God’s name in vain or use profanity every other word, is how you can tell. Another way is a lack of appreciation for all the blessings he gives.

If you do not acknowledge that the things you have are from God, you are not showing him your love. We should love sinners as Jesus did, as he did not come to reap the righteous people but came to save the sinners. His death for sinners proved his love.

Floyd will be having its Thanksgiving meal Saturday Nov. 21 at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

Everyone is welcome to come worship with us at Floyd. We are located at 3439 County Road 59 in Verbena.

New Salem Baptist Church

The adult choir opened the 11 a.m. service with “Soon and Very Soon,” while J.C. Pierce led the congregation in singing “Standing on the Promises.” The adult choir followed it up be singing, “What a Day That will be.” Special music was provided by Pierce who sang “Plenty of Time.”

Pastor Larry Resser read his text from 2 Corinthians 5:11. Speaking of the subject, “Terror of God”, Bro. Reeser emphasized that the believer knows the terror spoke of in the scriptures. God’s wrath is certain and we need to be about his business by witnessing a lost and dying world.

Just as football has a two-minute warning, it could be that some things happening today could be God’s two-minute warning, and he has given us a heads-up to be prepared.

Many today neglect prayer, as the story of the “rich man” in Luke chapter 16 shows that many will one day pray but their prayers will be too late.

Brother Reeser’s text at the 5 p.m. service came from 1 John 5, and pointed out that John said he wrote so that we “may know that we have eternal life” and also “may know him that is true, and we are in him.”

Thanksgiving lunch and Old-Fashioned Day will be Nov. 15, with lunch following the morning service.

The church will be traveling to the Kingwood Church in Alabaster on Dec. 12, to see “The gospel according to Scrooge.” We will leave the church at 5 p.m.

The adult choir has worked very hard preparing for the Christmas Cantata, which will be Dec. 20 during the morning worship service. The children will present their program at the 5 p.m. service. They will be under the direction of Karen Reeser.

The schedule of services for Sunday include 10 a.m. Sunday School and worship at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Bible study and prayer meeting will begin Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Presently we are studying the book of Revelation. You are invited to join with us at any of our services. If you need additional information, call (205) 389-1102. Submitted by Lucille Price Pierce
