The Chilton County Sheriff’s Office launched a new website Dec. 14.

The website will allow residents to find the latest information regarding operations within the sheriff’s department, as well as locate area sex offenders, according to a release from the sheriff’s department.

The website will also serve as an information resource for the public and assist with community policing efforts.

Other tools include press releases, messages from sheriff John Shearon, pages on the services of each division of the sheriff’s department and links to submit a crime tip via e-mail.

There are also social media links allowing access to Facebook and Twitter, according to the release.

Most Wanted listings allow the public to view photos and descriptions of wanted individuals.

Under the sex offender section, the public can now view photos and information for sex offenders living in the county, according to the release.

The interactive map feature on the website allows the public to view sex offenders, locations on the map, view offender photos and profile information about the offenses.

“Posting information on the website improves the efficiency of the sheriff’s office by reducing the number of inquiry calls handled by our office,” Shearon said in a release. “This tool allows us to devote more resources to the safety and security of our residents. The new website provides greater transparency for the sheriff’s office and encourages the public to take a more active role in community policing efforts. Our intent is for every county resident to visit the site and become familiar with how to locate sex offenders, how to submit a crime tip and where to find the latest news and updates from the sheriff’s office. We believe the website is a huge benefit to the sheriff’s office and the residents of Chilton County as well.”
