It has become quite a tradition for three local churches to present a Service of Lessons and Carols during the Advent season—the four weeks before Christmas.

This year marks the 11th year that this event has been put on by Trinity Episcopal Church and Resurrection Catholic Church; this year will also feature personnel from both Maplesville United Methodist Church and Lomax Independent Church.

The four churches will present a joint choir of about 25 members.

The event is based on a service that has been presented at Kings College, Cambridge; it will feature traditional scripture readings and prayers along with carols, both old and new.

The service will present a total of nine lessons from passages in both the Old and New Testament that lead up to, and include, the birth of Jesus.

Bill King, Rector of Trinity Church, said he hoped everyone would come and attend. “Lessons and Carols is a gift to the community of Bible readings and hymns as we prepare for Christmas,” King said.

The service this year will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Episcopal Church, which is located at 503 Second Ave. S. in Clanton.

All are invited to attend.

There will also be refreshments served afterwards in the Parish Home.

“We are looking forward to it, and we hope to see everyone there, organist Walter Hayden said.
