The Chilton County Fraternal Order of Police, Smith-Dale Lodge 31 is still accepting donations for its 13th annual “Operation: Santa Claus.”

The program is designed to provide Christmas to less fortunate families in the community—children who would otherwise have little or nothing to open on Christmas morning.

In previous years, Operation: Santa Claus has helped more than 2,000 children enjoy the delight of opening a gift on Christmas morning.

Chilton County Sheriff John Shearon, chaplain for the group, said it is always rewarding knowing you have been able to help families have a better Christmas.

Warren Garris, president for the group, said although it is too late for families to sign up to receive gifts for Christmas, it is not too late for individuals to donate.

“We are still taking donations of either cash or new, unwrapped toys,” Garris said.

Several people and organizations have donated toys and money this year to help provide gifts for families.

Chilton County United Way presented a $1,000 donation to Operation: Santa Claus at the Chilton County Jail on Monday afternoon.

Board chairman Yolanda Boggs presented the check to Shearon and Garris.

Garris said the toys will be delivered Dec. 22 at the FOP Lodge on Keystone Drive.

Those wishing to donate to Operation: Santa Claus can bring cash donations or unwrapped toys to the Chilton County Sheriff’s Office which is located on the main floor of the Chilton County Courthouse.
