It was a complete team effort put forth by Jemison’s varsity boys basketball team, as the Panthers defeated West Blocton 60-34 in front of its home crowd on Tuesday.

Jemison jumped out to an 18-3 lead at the end of the first quarter with keys plays being provided on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court.

The Panthers carried a 38-14 lead into the halftime break, and continued its onslaught in the second half.

Ryan Thompson led the way by making six of eight shots from the field and finished with a team-high 14 points, while Will Johns added 12 points.

Wes McGehee was a facilitator throughout the game and continually got his teammates involved on the offensive end. He finished with 11 points and six assists to accompany four steals.

Ty Leachman and Mason Jones won their share of battles on the boards. Each grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

The Jemison basketball program will now turn its attention to hosting a Thanksgiving tournament that will feature a round robin format.

The girls squad opens up at 3 p.m. Saturday against Marbury and will be followed shortly after by the boys. The girls will face West Blocton at 6 p.m. Monday followed once again by the boys game.

The final day of competition will be Tuesday, as the girls play Vincent at 3 p.m. followed by the boys. Admission will be $5 for each day.
