It was a big night, as both the Thorsby Junior High girls and boys basketball teams opened the season with victories on Monday night.

Thorsby Junior High girls basketball showcased its skills with a 50-4 home win against Holtville. It was all Rebels throughout the early going as Thorsby led 18-0 after the first quarter.

The Rebels continued a shutout performance with a 34-0 lead heading into halftime. In the second half, Thorsby outscored Holtville 16-4 and began the season with a bang.

Hannah Smith and Abbi Cleckler led the rebels with 12 points each while Carlee Wyatt and Emily Jones combined for 14 points on the night.

Ashley Cleckler and Kat Taylor also got in on the action with a pair of baskets for each.

The Thorsby Junior High boys team, also won its first game with an impressive 42-19 win over visiting Holtville.

Trent Jones and Cole Farris finished at the top of the score sheet with 10 points each. Together the two accounted for nearly half of the Rebels’ 42 total points.
