There are several Halloween events happening in Chilton County this weekend including Trick or Treat Streets sponsored by the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce.

This is the second year for the family-friendly event, which connects local businesses and the community for trick-or-treating on Saturday.

The event will be from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., Saturday, which is Halloween, in downtown Clanton.

Second Avenue North will be closed from Highway 31 to Fifth Street South, and Sixth Street North will be closed from Third Avenue North to First Avenue North for the event.

Basically, the intersection adjacent to the Chilton County Courthouse and Clanton City Hall will be the center of activity, with candy to be had in each direction, stretching to Clanton First Baptist Church to the north, Peoples Southern Bank to the west and the Clanton fire and police stations to the south.

Chilton County Chamber of Commerce Executive Assistant Lynsie Glasscock said if it rains, the event will be moved to the parking garage under Clanton City Hall.

“We are really hoping the rain holds off,” Glasscock said. “Right now, the forecast is looking like everything should be OK. We have had several people calling us to see if the event has been cancelled, and we are just letting them know that if it rains, we will still have the event in the parking garage.”

Glasscock said there is still time for businesses interested in setting up a booth for the event. They should call (205) 217-2013.

“We are still letting people set up,” Glasscock said.

Currently, the event has 30 booths including churches, businesses and individuals running for a political office.

Glasscock said several political figures donated $25 gift cards for the costume contest, which will be held beginning at 5 p.m.

The contest is separated into age groups including newborn to 4 beginning at 5 p.m., 5-8 beginning at 5:30 p.m. and 9-12 beginning at 6 p.m. The winners will be announced at 6:30 p.m. at Downtown Corner Park.

Glasscock said the event will also have several local fire departments on site with fire trucks for the kids to look at.

UnDiscovered Dance Studio in Clanton will also have a dance battle in the studio during the event.
