Mustangs win last regular season volleyball match

With a win Thursday over Holtville, Isabella finished its regular season with a 24-7 record.

The Mustangs host Maplesville Monday for the area tournament, with both teams guaranteed berths in the regional tournament.

IHS pulled out to a 8-0 lead in the first set and never let Holtville get close and won the set 25-11.

The second set started out going back and forth, and then it was 19-12.

The Mustangs held on to their lead and won it 25-14.

Isabella closed out the match with a 25-20 win in the third set.

Synia Chattman had eight kills, three blocks and two digs; Jayda Jones had four kills, three aces and four digs; Kinley Tuttle had four kills, two blocks and two digs; Makaela Littleton had three aces, 10 assists and two digs; Noelle Fjeldstad had three digs; Hailey Underwood had four blocks, two aces, eight assists and five digs; Brianna Tyler had five aces, two assists and four digs; Chandler Kirkland had one kill and one block; Sophia Underwood had three kills, one assist and four digs; Heather Wallace had three digs and one assist; and Caley Booth had one ace and 10 digs.

The team’s seniors, who were playing in their last regular season home match, are Sofi Biancalana, Booth, Littleton, Tyler and Kirkland.

On Oct. 13, the Mustangs traveled to Montevallo.

IHS was on fire and took the first match 25-13.

The second set was a different story, as Montevallo was determined to come out on top and the score went back and forth with only one or two points between them through the whole match.

Montevallo needed only one point to win the set at 24-21, but Littleton served to even the score at 24-all.

Montevallo called a timeout to try to stop Isabella’s momentum, but the Mustangs still won, 26-24.

IHS won the the third set, 25-18, to earn the victory.

The Mustangs had 22 kills for the night with Tuttle posting seven and Chattman five.

Tuttle (seven) and Chattman (three) also led the team in blocks.

Isabella’s 14 aces were led by Tyler and Kasey Grimes with four each.

Isabella’s 11 assists were led with Hailey Underwood’s four and Littleton’s and Grimes’ three each.

The junior varsity Mustangs lost, 2-0 (25-16, 25-18).
