Maplesville bounced back from a rare loss like one would expect of a championship-caliber team.

The Red Devils last week lost a regular season game for the first time since September 2012. On Friday, MHS took a 160-mile trip to Northview (Fla.), their state’s defending Class 1A champion, for a contest that could have been an unthinkable second consecutive loss.

Instead, Maplesville came away with a 32-0 win.

The second-ranked Devils (5-1 overall, 2-0 region) took a 7-0 first-quarter lead on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Cole Spencer to Robert Girlie.

Corey Hall made it 13-0 in favor of the visitors with an 11-yard run in the second quarter.

A 70-yard run by Spencer in the third quarter gave the Red Devils a 19-0 lead.

Two short touchdown runs in the fourth quarter (Hall from two yards out and Spencer from one yard) iced the game for Maplesville.

Terence Dunlap led the Devils with 140 rushing yards on 19 carries.

The Maplesville defense—led by Hall, Will Harrison and Trey Mixon—limited Northview to 68 rushing yards and 47 passing yards.
