Rebels win for happy Homecoming

A dominating performance by the Thorsby Rebels on Friday night gave the Homecoming crowd plenty to cheer about as the Rebels sent the Holy Spirit Titans home with a 49-7 loss.

The opening play of the game gave an early impression that the contest may become a track meet as Holy Spirit’s Garrett Appling received the Rebels’ opening kickoff and took it 82 yards to put the Titans up early, 7-0.
The Rebels (3-2 overall, 2-1 region) answered right back with their ensuing possession on a Conner McRae 43-yard touchdown run. McRae added the two-point conversion, and the Rebels took an 8-7 lead early in the first quarter.
A failed fourth down play by the Titans (1-4, 1-2) at their own 26 turned the ball over to the Rebels, who took advantage of the good field position three plays later when Ken Mims went in from four yards out to put Thorsby up 15-7.
A shanked Titans punt set up the Rebels’ third drive of the night at the Holy Spirit 22, and two plays later Terrell Davis found the end zone from 19 yards out to put Thorsby up 22-7 early in the second quarter.
Thorsby made it four in a row when Jon Davenport reached paydirt on a 10-yard touchdown carry to give the Rebels a 29-7 halftime lead.

Mims put more points on the board with the Rebels’ second possession of the second half with a 50-yard touchdown carry to make the score 35-7.
A 38-yard touchdown run by Davenport put the Rebels up 42-7 late in the third quarter, and a 19-yard touchdown carry by Christian Brown with 6:57 to play capped off the scoring.
“They played hard,” THS coach Billy Jackson said. “You always kind of worry about Homecoming distractions because everyone’s mind is everywhere else other than on the football game, but they didn’t do that. They prepared hard all week long, and I really think this team is starting to put together a little bit of an identity and realize that we are a pretty good football team.”
Mims had 95 yards on the ground with three touchdowns for the Rebels while Brad Stange had three receptions for 56 yards to lead the Thorsby passing attack.
