A Clanton man was arrested June 5 in Shelby County on rape, sexual abuse and sodomy charges involving a minor.

James Richard Easterling, 34, who lists an address off County Road 633 in Clanton, was arrested by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office on two counts of second-degree rape, one count second-degree sodomy and misdemeanor second-degree sexual abuse.

According to the arrest warrants, Easterling allegedly had sexual contact with a female “on or about June 3” who was younger than 16 years old but older than 12.

Easterling is currently in the Shelby County Jail on a $51,000 bond.

He is scheduled to appear in Shelby County Circuit Court for a preliminary hearing on July 9 at 8:30 a.m., according to court records.
