Kindergarteners at Clanton Elementary School had the opportunity on May 8 to learn about different careers at Career Day.
“Career Day is always a time where the students can come and learn about different things they might want to grow up and become,” said Nancy Powell, a kindergarten teacher at CES that coordinated the Career Day events. “The kids can learn there are so many jobs out there and can see firsthand the different careers.”
Career Day is held each year at the school, but Powell said this was the first year the festivities were held just for kindergarten students.
Students had the option to learn about different careers such as a veterinarian, a farmer, an ambulance driver, a fireman and a physical therapist.
Taylor Hatchett with Boozer Farms set up a table outside of the school with vegetables to teach the children about farming.
“A lot of the foods you eat on a daily basis were grown by a farmer,” Hatchett said.
Hatchett fielded several questions from students asking if every farmer had animals, what kind of food farmers grew, and whether all farmers have pigs.
She brought a pet goat and sheep for the children to pet and gave each student a piece of wool to take home with them.
“They always have a lot of fun learning about the different careers, and the presenters who come do a great job,” Powell said.
Barry Baker from Cornerstone Fitness and Wellness spoke to the students about physical therapy and showed different examples of plastic bones.
“How many of you have ever broken a bone or known someone who has broken a bone,” Baker asked the group of students. “Sometimes you break a bone from doing different activities and sometimes you get hurt, and we try to help you regain what you have lost.”
