The 2015 Chilton County Softball Tournament kicked off on Thursday, with six squads squaring off in pool play to set the tournament bracket for single elimination tournament on Friday.

Here is a rundown of how each team fared during pool play:

ISABELLA: The Mustangs went undefeated in pool play, taking down Chilton County in Game 1, 4-0.

Chelsea Cox turned in a six inning, two-hit performance in the contest, allowing two hits while striking out three.

At the plate, Cox went 1-for-3 with two RBI, while Alexis Burnett went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Caley Booth went 2-for-2.

The Mustangs then faced off with Verbena in the 7 p.m. game, taking down the Red Devils, 10-1.
Sophie Underwood went 2-for-2 with two triples and an RBI, Cox went 2-for-3 with a double and Makaela Littleton went 1-for-2 on offense.

On the mound, Jayda Jones went 2.2 innings, surrendering just one hit and issuing three strikeouts.

The Mustangs earned a first-round bye in the single elimination tournament, where they will take on the winner of the 4 p.m. Thorsby-Verbena game at 5:30 p.m.

JEMISON: The Panthers also went 2-0 on the day in pool play competition, defeating Maplesville, 17-0, and Thorsby, 9-1.

In the Maplesville contest, Jessica Paschal went 2-for-2 with two RBI, Destiny Bailey went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and three RBI and Dara Harris went 2-for-3 with two triples and three RBI.

On the mound, Kennise Bolton went three innings, surrendering just three hits and striking out five.

Against Thorsby, Kelson Cole, Laura Vinzant and Bailey all went 2-for-3. Cole had two RBI in the contest.

Defensively, Hannah Corbin went six innings, giving up no earned runs on four hits and striking out three.

The Panthers will have a bye in the first round on Friday, as they will play the winner of the Chilton County-Maplesville contest at 5:30 p.m.

CHILTON COUNTY: The Tigers fell in the pool play opener to Isabella, 4-0, where Mary Mac Hughes went 1-for-2 and Kelsey Headley went 1-for-3 in the pitcher’s duel.

The second game of the evening proved to be a stronger offensive showing for the Tigers, as they took down Verbena, 21-0.

Taylor Smitherman went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and six RBI. Kailey Cordes pitched three innings, posting six strikeouts.

The Tigers will face Maplesville at 4 p.m. on Friday

THORSBY: The Rebels split their two contests on Thursday, falling to Jemison, 9-1, and taking down Maplesville, 4-3, in extra innings.

In the Jemison contest, Taylor McManus went 2-for-3 at the plate, McManus tossed seven innings, surrendering seven runs on 14 hits, striking out nine.

In the Maplesville contest, Charlet Childress went 2-for-3, while Lilly Barnett went 1-for-3 with an RBI and McManus went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

The Rebels move on to face Verbena Friday at 4 p.m.

MAPLESVILLE: The Red Devils fell in both of their contests, to Jemison 17-0 on Game 1 and Thorsby, 4-3, in Game 2.

In the Thorsby contest, the Red Devils appeared to be on their way to a win, as they took a 3-1 lead in extra innings, but the Rebels mounted a comeback to take a 4-3 win.

At the plate, Cyana Quimby went 2-for-3, as did Kathryn Jones.

On the mound, Alexus Goggins gave up no earned runs off four hits in 6.2 innings of work.

The Red Devils now move on to face Chilton County at 4 p.m. on Friday.

VERBENA: The Red Devils had a tough go of it during pool play, falling to Chilton County, 21-0, before falling to Isabella, 10-1.

In the Isabella contest, Adrianna Pike had the lone Red Devil RBI, knocking in Katelyn Green in the first inning.

The Red Devils will take on Thorsby at 4 p.m. on Friday.
