The Thorsby Town Council voted unanimously on March 16 for the purchase of a new lawn mower.

The mower, an Exmark brand, zero-turn industrial mower, will cost $9,774 and come from Littleton’s Mower & Hardware in Thorsby. It will be gas powered and hold 12 gallons of gas, according to the information sheet distributed to the council.

The mower was selected over a Kubota brand diesel mower valued at $11,810, and will replace a similar mower that was damaged last year.

The mower will be used to help maintain city properties, such as Richard Wood Park and the town’s cemeteries.

In other business, the council:

•Voted unanimously to lease the old maintenance shop, located behind the fire department, to Casey Knox for six months at $500 a month. Knox will use the storage facility to house items from his hardwood floor refinishing business.

•Discussed adjusting the water service tap fee for new subdivisions, but no vote was taken.

•Discussed an opening for a part-time grass cutter for the public works department, but no vote was taken.

•Voted unanimously to pay all bills and approve the minutes from the March 2 meeting.
